Youth Wellness Movement
The Youth Wellness Movement (YWM) imagines schools where the wellbeing of students, teachers, administrators, and families is treated as one connected system. At its center is the Youth Wellness Index (YWI) — a validated survey that measures how students are doing and points educators toward the resources and training their classrooms actually need.
THE CHALLENGE
Surveys are easy to run. Making sense of them is the hard part. Every cycle produced more data than anyone could process by hand, and re-running the analysis with new parameters meant decision-makers waited days for a readable answer. The original dashboard lived in Looker Studio; the real opportunity was to put AI into the workflow so the tool could digest the data and draft a report on its own.

THE APPROACH
Privacy came first. The tool stores no individual student data — the AI works only on aggregate responses against demographic groups, producing a draft summary that a human reviews before it goes anywhere. From there, we used a stack of AI tools at each stage of building the analysis engine, which let a small team stand up a genuinely complex platform fast, in both prototype and production.
THE OUTCOME
We've partnered with Community Responsive Education (CRE) since building the first YWI in 2020, and it's since been adopted by schools across the country, especially when paired with professional development. The bottleneck was always report generation — slow, manual, and easy to fall behind on. Work like this would normally need a front-end designer, a graphic designer, and a backend developer, with scope and revisions stretching days to weeks. With AI in the loop, we now build it in roughly 70% less time with half the staff — savings that go straight back into more features for the Movement.
